There are two main factors that impact your camera's speed: the time it takes to lock focus, which affects how fast the camera captures an image after you press the shutter button; and processing and write speeds, which affect how fast you can shoot the next image after you're just taken a picture. In our reviews, we refer to the first factor as shutter lag and measure it in both high-contrast and low-contrast situations. We call the second factor shot-to-shot time. LG Offers Netflix-Streaming Blu-Ray Player

At the Consumer Electronics Show last January, LG teased people with an announcement that it would introduce some sort of device that would play movies on Netflix’s streaming, on-demand service. But it wouldn’t say what device or how much it would cost.
Thursday, the South Korean company is explaining itself a bit: LG’s latest entry into the Blu-ray disc player market will also play movies from Netflix.
The company still won’t say what the price will be. But in an interview Wednesday, Allan Jason, LG’s vice president for sales and marketing in its digital media division, said the new device would be priced to match the other premium players in the market. He said he expected that such players would probably cost $400 to $450 by this fall. Cheaper players by lesser-known brands may well start around $300, he added.
The player does not have a wireless networking connection, unlike the $100 stand-alone box from Roku meant to play Netflix films on televisions. But Mr. Jason said that the sort of early adopters who are likely to buy Blu-ray players in the next few years mostly already have Internet connections in their family rooms.
LG is a relatively new entrant into the United States consumer electronics market. It had good success, Mr. Jason said, with a line of players that combined both Blu-ray and its now defunct rival, HD-DVD. The company is hoping that its deal with Netflix will help its players stand out.
“Consumers want more content,” he said. “Netflix has a catalog of over 12,000 movies that can be streamed. We said, ‘This makes the perfect marketing partnership with LG.’”
While this is the first Blu-ray player with Internet video, it will not be the last. The latest specification for the format, called BD Live, requires an Internet connection in order to download additional content related to Blu-ray discs. Mr. Jason said that it added very little cost to the player to add the features needed for Internet video. By contrast, the H.D.M.I. connectors used to send digital signals between various home devices, are quite expensive, he said.
Over time, LG expects to add links to other Internet video providers, like those that offer pay-per-view movies. New services could be added to existing Blu-ray players through a software upgrade, Mr. Jason said.
As much as consumers might like to see such a player connect to any video that is available, Mr. Jason said that online video as a whole is too disorganized.
“We’re not going to put a skin on the Internet,” he said.
